Offered by Sonoma State University and taught by Dr. Paul Porter and Entrepreneur-in-Residence Mark Nelson, this open course, hosted on the web platform Canvas, highlights the role of entrepreneurial thinking in contemporary education. Based on core modules, it covers defining features of entrepreneurialism in education, including becoming an economic unit of one, overcoming obstacles and failing forward, rethinking risk, and building alignment with business-education connections.
Edupreneurs Connect Learning and Life
An #edupreneur is an educator who understands the parallels between effective teaching and being entrepreneurial and brings the concepts and principles closer together to support the betterment of students. They realize that a new way of thinking about learning and life preparation can emerge in our schools where teachers and students constantly invest in their own learning, look at risk differently, and align their inner passions with the economic and social realities of the world.

Who Should Take This Course?
Offered as a 'massively open online course' (MOOC), the course is open to participants from around the world as well as local California educators. Teachers, administrators, educational leaders and stakeholders in schools and educational institutions are encouraged to enroll and join our network exploring the concepts of entrepreneurial education. There is no enrollment fee to register for the course.
Credit Options
Once registered, you may explore and complete the course for free. If you choose there is are two paid options to complete all the requirements to either earn 2 CEUs for your transcript ($195) or to receive a Printed course completion verification document from Sonoma State ($75). Course Dates and Delivery
The Entrepreneurial Educator launches on October 20, 2014. Participants may engage with the material at their own pace, with content presented in thematic modules, offering many opportunities for exploration, learning and engagement over the course of 30 days. The course closes on November 17, 2014. Meet our Educators
Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Sonoma State University
Mark Nelson is the Hugh Codding Foundation Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Sonoma State University. Nelson, the former president and COO of the Nelson Family of Companies, works with faculty, students, and community organizations to develop entrepreneurial initiatives that support the inclusion of entrepreneurialism in education and accelerates entrepreneurial action in California's North Bay.
Professor of Education
Dr. Porter is a faculty member in the Educational Leadership and Joint Doctoral programs and formerly served as a elementary and secondary school principal, counselor, director of special education, and also a school superintendent for 17 years.
His research interests are in leadership, team building, education business connections, communications and school culture .
